To mark the 120th anniversary of Caziel’s birth, we are delighted to announce the second and final installment of our special release of works on paper directly from the artist’s archives. This curated project features twelve unseen, unframed pastels dating from two defining chapters of his life: 1963–64 and 1987–88.
Following our first drop of 1960s works two weeks ago, this final release introduces the remaining six pastels from the 1980s. Never before exhibited, individual pieces are priced at £4,500 and offer a rare, intimate glimpse into the culmination of Caziel’s practice.
This final release encapsulates the definitive chapter in both Caziel's life and his artistic direction. Executed between 1987 and 1988, these six later works date from his time in Somerset, where he and his wife, Catherine, had permanently relocated. Here, his practice captures an exceptionally prolific creative output right up until his death in 1988. Witnessed in contrast to his mid-century work, these late pastels illustrate a clear stylistic shift, tracking his departure from lyrical abstraction toward a focus on geometry and rhythm.
Working in pastel and charcoal afforded Caziel an immediacy of expression. The selected works demonstrate his control of spatial dynamics, balancing a vibrant palette with structural clarity. Released directly from the archives, these authentic works carry impeccable provenance and the Estate would be delighted to advise on framing.
Following these digital releases, Whitford Fine Art will be hosting a further exhibition of Caziel's works on paper at their Brussels gallery in Autumn 2026.
